Philippines · Brownout backup

Size battery backup around the loads you cannot lose.

A battery is not sized from your entire electricity bill alone. Start with what must keep running, how long the outage lasts, and whether solar or grid power can recharge the system.

Separate energy capacity from inverter power.

Battery kWh determines roughly how much energy is available over time. Inverter kW determines how much power can be delivered at once and whether motors or compressors can start. A reliable backup plan has to check both.

  • List the essential appliances first: fridge, Wi-Fi, lights, fans, pumps, work or medical loads.
  • Choose a realistic outage duration instead of automatically backing up the whole house.
  • Allow for appliance duty cycle, inverter losses and motor/compressor starting demand before final equipment selection.
Compare the decision

Three questions define the first backup plan.

1

What must stay on?

Fridge, Wi-Fi, lights, fan, pump or selected critical circuits.

2

How long?

Four hours, overnight or a longer weak-grid scenario require very different storage.

3

How will it recharge?

Solar can improve recovery in daylight; grid or generator availability changes the contingency plan.
